A. Pengertian

Webmin adalah alat konfigurasi sistem berbasis web untuk sistem Like-Unix, meskipun versi terbaru juga dapat diinstal dan dijalankan pada Windows. Dengan itu, untuk mengkonfigurasi internal sistem operasi, seperti pengguna, kuota disk, jasa atau file konfigurasi, serta memodifikasi dan mengontrol open source aplikasi, seperti Apache HTTP Server , PHP atau MySQL.

Webmin terdiri dari web server sederhana dengan sejumlah program CGI yang langsung memperbarui file system /etc/inetd.conf dan /etc/passwd. Web server dan semua program CGI yang ditulis dalam Perl v.5, dan tidak menggunakan modul Perl non-standart.

B. Sejarah WebMin

Webmin dirilis Minecraft Server Modul 1.0 pada Januari 2013, dan versi 1.1 pada bulan Maret 2013. Modul menyajikan GUI yang sangat dasar untuk administrasi server. Sementara aplikasi manajemen server Multicraft dapat dirancang lebih sleekly, versi gratis dari Multicraft terbatas pada 10 pemain simultan. Webmin Minecraft server gratis dan open source tanpa pembatasan pemain simultan.

C. Gambaran Umum

Webmin sebagian besar didasarkan pada Perl , berjalan sebagai proses sendiri dan web server . Standarnya TCP pelabuhan 10000 untuk berkomunikasi, dan dapat dikonfigurasi untuk menggunakan SSL jika OpenSSL diinstal dengan tambahan yang dibutuhkan Perl Modules.

Hal ini dibangun di sekitar modul , yang memiliki antarmuka ke file konfigurasi dan server Webmin. Hal ini membuat mudah untuk menambahkan fungsi baru. Karena desain modular Webmin ini, sangat mungkin bagi siapa saja yang tertarik untuk menulis plugin untuk desktop yang konfigurasi.

D. Software Terkait WebMin

Webmin dapat diperluas dengan modul yang bisa dibuat khusus. Selain ini, ada dua proyek besar lainnya yang memperluas fungsionalitas dari webmin:

1. Usermin hadiah dan kontrol subset dari fitur yang tersedia di Webmin, seperti webmail dan tugas-tugas user-level lainnya, daripada tugas administrator-level.
2. Virtualmin , yang merupakan web hosting control panel. Keluar dari kotak, Virtualmin memungkinkan pengguna untuk meng-host situs web di bawah domain. Hal ini memberikan admin server dan pengguna akhir yang mudah untuk menggunakan antarmuka untuk mengelola situs Web .

E. Kegunaan Webmin :

Webmin digunakan sebagai interface berbasis web untuk administrasi sistem unix. Contohnya :

F. Kerugian Webmin :

• Tidak dapat mendukung untuk Operasi Sistem Windows
• Tidak semua orang bisa mengakses WEBMIN terkecuali ADMINISTRATOR
• Membutuhkan Internet untuk mengakses WEBMIN

G. Keuntungan Webmin :

• Penggunaanya mudah
• Hemat waktu dalam administrasi
• Support terhadap turunan Unix, termasuk Linux dan keluarga BSD
• Instalasinya mudah
• Mudah untuk  menambahkan modul dan update
• Adanya fasilitas help yang mempermudah administrasi
• Aman.

H. Fitur-fitur dalam Webmin :

1. ADSL Client  : Set up a PPP client with the RP-PPPoE package.
2. Apache Webserver  : Configure almost all Apache directives and features.
3. BIND 4 DNS Server  : Create and edit domains and DNS records.
4. BIND DNS Server  : Create and edit domains, DNS records, BIND options and views.
5. BSD Firewall  : Configure a BSD firewall using IPFW, by creating and editing rules.
6. Backup Configuration Files :  Perform manual or scheduled backups and restores of configuration files managed by Webmin modules.
7. Bacula Backup System :  Configure Bacula to perform backups and restores manually or on schedule, for one or many systems.
8. Bandwidth Monitoring :  View reports on bandwidth usage by host, port, protocol and time on a Linux system.
9. Bootup and Shutdown :  Setup scripts to be run at boot time from /etc/init.d or /etc/rc.local.
10. CD Burner :  Burn data CDs from ISO images or selected directories.
11. CVS Server :  Setup a remotely-accessible CVS server, manage users and browse the repository.
12. Change Language and Theme :  Allows the current Webmin user to change his language, theme and possibly password.
13. Change Passwords :  Change the password of any user on the system.
14. Cluster Change Passwords :  Change passwords on multiple systems in a Webmin cluster at once.
15. Cluster Copy Files :  Schedule the transfer of files from this server to multiple servers in a Webmin cluster.
16. Cluster Cron Jobs :  Create scheduled Cron jobs that run on multiple servers simultaneously.
17. System Logs NG :  Configure the Syslog-NG server on your system and view its log files.
18. System Time :  Set the sytem and hardware time either manually or from a time server.
19. System and Server Status : View the status of services on your system and on remote systems.
20. Upload and Download :  Upload multiple files to the server, and download multiple URLs either immediately or in the background at a scheduled time.
21. Usermin Configuration : Configure global options for the Usermin user account management server.
22. Users and Groups  : Create and edit Unix users and groups from the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files.
23. Voicemail Server :  Set up your system as an answering machine using vgetty
24. WU-FTP Server : Configure the access control, anonymous FTP and other options of WU-FTPd.
25. Webalizer Logfile Analysis :  Generate reports from webserver, proxy server and FTP log files
26. Webmin Actions Log :  View detailed logs of actions by Webmin users.
27. Webmin Configuration :  Configure Webmin itself, such as allowed hosts, SSL, installed modules and themes.
28. Webmin Servers Index : Displays an index of other Webmin servers for easy linking.
29. Webmin Users :  Create Webmin users and configure which modules and features they are allowed to access.
30. idmapd daemon : Manage the NFS ID mapping daemon.
